Leaky Gut, Flare-ups & The Foods That Made Me Worse (Part 2)

For the longest time, I was “doing everything right” - or so I thought.

Drinking herbal teas.
Eating “healthy” snacks.
Praying for healing.
Buying all-natural skincare.

But 6years on, my flare-ups kept coming back
And deep inside, I genuinely felt frustrated and almost gave up.

Until I discovered one phrase that shifted everything:

“Leaky Gut.”

💧 What Is Leaky Gut - and Why Should You Care?

Without going into too much technical terms, leaky gut (aka increased intestinal permeability) happens when the lining of your small intestine gets damaged.
Normally, your gut lining acts like a tight sieve - allowing only nutrients to pass through into your bloodstream.

But when it's inflamed or weakened (from poor diet, chronic stress, antibiotics, etc.), it becomes “leaky”- letting toxins, bacteria, and partially digested food particles pass into your bloodstream.

Your body then goes on high alert, attacking these foreign invaders.

What shows up?
🔥Chronic inflammation
🔥 Autoimmune triggers
🔥 Skin flare-ups like eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, and even acne

The “Healthy” Foods That Made Me Worse

Here’s the hard truth; not every healthy food is healthy for you - especially when your gut is damaged.

The more I paid attention, the more I noticed certain things I was eating were making me worse, not better.

Some examples?

- Dairy: triggered instant itchiness, bloating, and fatigue
- Whole wheat breads: caused brain fog and more flare-ups
- Store-bought “healthy” granola: packed with hidden sugars
- Fried plantain (yes, even my fave): too oily for my gut to handle
- Soy sauce and takeaways: caused flare-ups within a day
- Cereal: packed with processed sugars that inflamed me within hours

These foods alone aren't the problem. But for me? While my gut was leaky, they were not right.  I needed to step back and allow my system to reset.

But How Do You Know If You Have Leaky Gut?

You might relate to this if you’ve experienced:
- Multiple food sensitivities
- Flare-ups after eating “normal” meals
- Joint pain, fatigue, or bloating
- Feeling “off” after antibiotics
- Skin breakouts that come and go with your diet or time of the month
- Persistent brain fog

Sometimes, it’s not just what you eat…
It’s what your gut can’t handle anymore.

✝ Faith in the Middle of the Mess

Healing leaky gut was more than nutrition. It was emotional and spiritual.

I cried. I begged God to take it away.
And instead, He gently showed me how to rebuild.

“I will restore health to you And I will heal your wounds– Jeremiah 30:17

So I began:
- Eating slowly
- Fasting with purpose, not pressure
- Drinking bone broth & herbal teas
- Cutting out dairy, sugar, gluten
- Learning my triggers
- And most of all, trusting God for the body he’s designed to heal itself

🌿 What You Can Do Right Now

1. Track your flare-ups with a food journal
2. Eat anti-inflammatory, easy-to-digest meals
3. Sip herbal teas (Ewà Ara blends coming soon!)
4. Choose skincare that supports your healing - not just covers the symptoms
5. Pray over your meals - blessing your body before symptoms show up
