Why Steroid Creams Failed Me (And How God Led Me Back to Nature)
When my skin first broke out, I did what most of us do. I went straight to the doctor.
Tube after tube of steroid creams were prescribed to me, even whilst pregnant (I was that clueless about steroids). They seemed like a miracle at first - within days, the redness would calm, the flare would fade, and I’d think,“Finally, I can breathe again.”
But then came the backlash. Weeks later, sometimes even days, the flare-ups would come back stronger, angrier, and more widespread.
I was stuck in a vicious cycle: apply the cream, get temporary relief, wait for the return - only worse than before.
Living in Fear of the Next Flare-Up
There’s something soul-crushing about not knowing when your skin will betray you again.
I planned outfits around my flare-ups.
I cancelled outings when my skin felt “unshowable.”
I kept tubes of steroid cream in my bag like an emergency kit - yet even with all that, I was helpless.
The truth? I didn’t know what else to do. Doctors gave me no answers, only stronger creams. No one explained why my skin kept rebelling.
And so, I prayed.
The Turning Point: Asking Deeper Questions
After several episodes of flare had returned with vengeance, I cried out to God.
“There must be more than this. Lord, show me the way.”
That prayer opened a new path.
I began researching. I started asking questions. I listened to older generations who spoke about oils, seeds, herbs, and plants, what they would have used for such skin conditions centuries back.
And every time I dug deeper, I noticed something: God had already placed what I needed in creation.
“Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for healing.” – Ezekiel 47:12
It wasn’t in the tubes filled with chemicals. It was in the very plants He designed.
From Confusion to Clarity
I started slowly. Replacing harsh creams with gentle, natural oils. Swapping quick fixes for slower, more intentional healing.
Instead of 10 different products, I simplified.
Instead of obsessing over steroid cycles, I chose to nourish my skin barrier.
Instead of asking, “What else can I apply?” I asked, “What does my skin truly need?”
I learned that:
🌿 Rosehip oil fades scars and strengthens the skin
🌿 Calendula calms inflammation
🌿 Shea butter heals wounds faster and stimulates cellular activity.
And most of all, I learned to invite prayer into my routine. Healing wasn’t just topical, it was spiritual.
Practical Lessons I Wish I Knew Sooner
1. Steroids are quick fixes, not solutions. They mask symptoms, but don’t address the root.
2. Your skin needs time and simplicity. Overloading products weakens your barrier.
3. Nutrition is the genesis of wellness. Its more about eating right and less about cutting out food groups.
4. Faith shifts your mindset. When you stop fearing or resenting your skin, you start supporting it.
3. Natural ingredients heal in harmony. They work gently, steadily, restoring balance.
The Birth of Ewà Ara
My journey wasn’t just about clearing flare-ups. It was about creating a space where others wouldn’t have to go through the same endless cycle of frustration.
That’s why I created Ewà Ara. Every jar of Rosehip Body Butter is my answer to years of confusion, pain, and prayer. It’s my way of saying: “You don’t have to go through this alone. There is another way.”
Final Thoughts
If you’re stuck in the same cycle I was - cream, flare, repeat. I want you to know this: healing is possible.
It doesn’t come in a rush. It doesn’t come from obsession. It comes from God’s wisdom, nature’s design, and the courage to believe your body was made to heal.
You don’t need another tube. You need truth. And you’ll find it in every Ewà Ara jar.
